Over the last 50 years, the salty areas of the world’s oceans have become saltier, while the fresh areas have become fresher.
This is a concern as the oceans are central to the Earth’s water cycle. 86 percent of the planet’s evaporation and 78 percent of it’s precipitation occurs over the oceans.
NASA researchers expect that the cause is the global warning trend that has been occurring over the last 50 years.
A research vessel has departed for the north Atlantic, which is a region of higher salinity.
